A CLEAR COMPASSIONATE LOOK AT SCRIPTURE - CENTERED ON JESUS

If you’ve been hurt by the church

For many people, this isn’t an abstract question—it’s personal. If you’ve been pressured to hide, shamed, or made to feel unwelcome, we want you to know this first: you are not alone, and you are not beyond the reach of God’s love.

How we approach the Bible

At St. John’s United, we take Scripture seriously and seek to read it faithfully—with humility, prayer, and a deep desire to follow Jesus. We believe the Bible is living and active, and that God still speaks through His Word today.

Why we are Open & Affirming

As an Open & Affirming congregation, we welcome LGBTQ+ people and families into the full life of the church—not because of cultural trends, but because we believe Jesus invites people into belonging, grace, and transformation.

Take your next step at your pace

Some come ready for clarity. Others are still healing. Wherever you are, you are welcome here. If you’d like to talk, ask questions, or be prayed for, we would be honored to connect with you.
EXPLORE THE PASSAGES
These are some of the biblical passages most often raised in conversations about LGBTQ+ people and Christian faith. Explore each one in its historical, literary, and theological context—and consider what it means when read within the larger story of Scripture and through the life and teaching of Jesus.
